: TORONTO: On Saturday, February 3rd, 2018, over 500 people will gather at the 34th Annual Great Valentine Gala at the Fairmont Royal York to support the Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons (CFPDP). The Gala is meant to improve awareness in the business community, government and general public of the amazing contributions of persons with physical disabilities.
âThis is a very special night for the CFPDP, the Gala is where life began for the organization,â says Honourable Vim Kochhar, Gala Founder and CFPDP Chairman. âGala night is a welcoming party, a celebration and gathering for everyone. Itâs a feeling of acceptance, acknowledgement and recognition for those who take the extra mile in supporting and interacting with those who have a physical disability.â
Guests of honour will include Lt. Governor, Hon. David C. Onley, and Suhana Meharchand, host of CBC news. Hosts of the evening include Co-Chairs, Donald A. Guloien, Past President & CEO, Manulife Financial Corporation and Duncan Sinclair a Vice Chair with Deloitte. Corporate award winner representative Kevin Patterson, SEVP and Group Head, Technology & Operations, CIBC and Michael Medline, CEO, Sobeys. Other special guests include: Honourable Peter MacKay, Former Minister of National Defence, Honourable Con DiNino, Hon. Julien Fantino, Hon Bal Gosal, Hon. Sabi Marwah, and Hon. Asha Seth.
As part of the annual Gala celebrations, an award ceremony will take place. The Honourable David C. Onley Award will be presented to an individual in recognition of extraordinary service to Canadians who live with disability. This yearâs winner is Michael Burns, past CEO of the Invictus Games Toronto 2017, who led the largest international adaptive sport competition featuring ill and injured soldiers and veterans.
